The Pearl Jewellery of Bergman & Sons:
31 years ago, an extraordinary family adventure began.
Arriving in the capital city of Avarua (Rarotonga) in 1976, the Bergman family dream was to open a jewellery store on this small pacific Island.
After an initial setback (or two!) Mike & Marjorie Bergman discovered the natural pearls (poe pipi) of Penrhyn Island in the remote northern Islands of the Cook Islands.
Tackling the historical pearl markets of Asia & Europe, fortuitous contacts resulted in sales of natural pearls to well known jewellery houses and European Royalty.
After many years, the family realised their initial dream of opening their own jewellery store on Rarotonga. With the commercial availability of Cook Islands Black Pearls in 1989, Bergman & Sons became the first local company to specialise in this new, exotic gem.
Today, the Bergman Family operate 4 stores (3 on Rarotonga and 1 on neighbouring Aitutaki) and are the flagship Pearl Retailers of the Cook Islands.
Over the many years, Bergman & Sons have developed substantial research into pearl jewellery setting & manufacturing and are recognized regionally as leaders in pearl jewellery design.
After 31 years, it is our pleasure to continue to play a role in the on-going legend of Pearls.
